The news from around the world today is full of contradictions, cruelties and kindness, love and hate, all the old mixtures. So what is progress? Technological,? Health care? Religious? The latter seems to drive more divisions among us than even politics - which itself is in a state of flux every minute. Our sex lives fluctuate between narcissism, exhibitionism and any other 'ism' on the agenda. So many different brain types at work - trying to cooperate, to kill, to help, to destroy. Utterly crazy disparities. Total incompetency, wonderful breakthroughs in areas of medicine and scientific understanding.
The anomalies are occurring in profusion. In France there is a port opposite the coast of England which is almost occupied by illegal immigrants desperate to enter Britain. They build camps, suffer deprivation while waiting to smuggle themselves in containers and trucks bound for what is believed to be the nirvana of welfare States. England. The Mayor of Calais has made a statement to the effect that 'Britain must do more to sort out this situation as her city is under siege'. Lunacy. The French must sort out these immigrants - we have no legal authority to take any action in France. Madame Bouchard, the Mayor, must turn to the French police for help, not blame we Brits. Or ask her government to intervene.
The cruel and rather stupid decision by the English to seek an international arrest warrant for the parents of Ashya King, the little boy with a brain tumour, was crass and ugly. He was left lonely and hurt by his parent's disappearance while they were arrested and put in prison - for simply wanting to get the best possible treatment for him. The storm of protest not just from the Brits but from around the world finally woke up the smug and arbitrary idiots who use their power like a sledgehammer to squash a grape. However, like a 'Gone with the wind' character said - there's always tomorrow.
